- Cask ale is an old school way of serving beer. In English pubs before the advent of refrigeration all beer was kept cool in the cellar and the typical ambient temperature was around 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. The means for pulling the beer from the cellar was by displacement pump which evolved into the lovely hand pumps that you will find in most English pubs to this day. The beer is served unfiltered and may be fined to ensure clarity. The carbonation is natural and therefore very low resulting in a less gassy product. Cask ale is another way to enjoy the full flavor of beer.
